DON’T HATE THE PLAYER, HATE THE GAME

A local cemetery I never knew existed

DON’T HATE THE PLAYER, HATE THE GAME

I liked you so much better
When your story was untold
Now you go backward looking forward
Believing all that glitters is really gold

You keep your demons in a suitcase
An arrow in your heart
You’re crying out for plan B
But the game has yet to start

You’re trapped in endless dreamland
I don’t understand one half of what you say
You think you are the hunter
You can’t see that you’re the prey

I remember when you were someone
There’s still time for you to be so much more
You’ve a heart and soul inside of you
Just don’t leave them at fame’s door

I don’t know if you’re listening
But it matters all the same
When I tell you what I’m thinking
Don’t hate the player; hate the game

  1. WOW, love all this post. Lots on offer Lord George. Old cemeteries are suck interesting places too.I know that sounds morbid, it’s not meant to. They always throw up some mystery ona stone. I see this one is no exception.

    1. I agree Shey, cemeteries are interesting for loads of reasons. This one was up near the castle and I’d only seen before as a tiny cemetery. I thought I’d have a look and it’s a mile square – massive, old stuff and new there. Thanks for the read ~ George

      1. It’s agreat read. But yeah cemeteries are interesting. I mind seeing the one at the deserted village at Wharum Percy. Fascinating. Here in the town centre of Dundee is the Howff which IS a small space and like stepping into another world. But there’s also one at Balgay which looks to jstu be the bit at the front till you start really looking round. Putting all that aside you sometimes come across an old stone with a mystery attached.

      2. It’s probably the wrong thing to say, but I like the art of a cemetery for some reason. Like you say, old stone has mystery ~ George

  2. That cemetery is fascinating. Your music, G Major Melancholy is relaxing. While you seek commissions do you have a youtube channel? There are a lot of channels full of hours of restful music. This is me casting about for ways of income for your talents in this time Covid. ❤

    1. Thank you for the ideas and reading my post. Appreciated. I do have a YouTube channel, yet unless I prostitute myself I’ve found it not a lot of use in terms of marketing my backing tracks. When I joined I was ‘the new kid on the block’. What I hadn’t taken account of was that those who had pretty much owned the backing track market for years weren’t having me there. They, the pair of them, made a point each day – at the exact time they posted their own work – of dissing my work, work that had a lot of praise by UK professionals. After that musicians and general public would see ‘dislikes’ on my posts and there was nothing I could do about it. A pity, but I guess that’s life. My songs, instrumentals etc. are being played in good numbers all over the globe on radio and commercial outlets, although I don’t see much in the way of royalties because most people stream these days, using Spotify etc. Corona hasn’t helped the music market, a market that has been as good as dead this last year. I tend to use ReverbNation and Bandcamp along with Amazon Music, iTunes and a few others for my music. Right now I’m waiting to get my creativity back. Luckily I’m still just about surviving. Thanks again ~ George

      1. Back in the day, when I was an able bodied spokesperson-type, royalties were all that. Going to the mail box was like Christmas..sweet, sweet royalty checks. Now we are all deadlocked in a permanent race to the bottom and the people at the top skim our profits and steal our work.

Eeeeyeah, I shouldn’t post in the morning. I’m a bit ‘truthy’ and short tempered then.
