‘Zeus’s Forgotten Daughter’

I got this message the other day.

It read, ‘Nice work! Your song THE FORGOTTEN DAUGHTER OF ZEUS caught our attention and has made its way to the headphones of our Senior Curators. Curation is the first step towards career-changing artist development programs such as label deals, festival slots, and more. Not every song gets heard by Senior Curators, so give yourself a pat on the back!’

I’ve had a few of these before but this is the first instrumental number that’s got curated. Whether it’s ‘career-changing’ I haven’t got a clue. Even so, because of this, I thought I owed it to Zeus’s forgotten daughter to write her some words. Thinking about it, this ended up the closest to Country and Western I’ll ever get – it’s hard work telling a story in song.

To Zeus’s lonely, forgotten daughter
Hurling bolts of lightning never was her way
So the King of Gods thought she ought ‘a
Just pack her bag and go away

In the valley down from Mount Olympus
She found some place to stay
Sacrificed her supernatural status
Saved her tears for another day

She gave up on immortality
In the forest by the water spring
She hung out with the nymph squad
Discovered she could sing

You’ll find her singing in a nightclub
On the Greek island they call Crete
She signed-up for a record label
Ain’t that some feat, so sweet, so neat
