The sky will last forever
The clouds are temporary
In a 100 years from now
What remains will be a poisoned sea
Some will call it tragic
When the sea puts on its show for free
Just rotting fish and plastic
A becalmed toxic destiny
Idiots and profiteers
Sit back and watch it on TV
The carcasses of whales
The cloak of everlasting synthetic debris
It’s already far too late to save
The art of sky and clouds and sea
Maybe you’ll have a picture on the wall
Of nature’s old days creativity
Now we play the end game
Though blind fools will disagree
That once a long, long time ago
All of life on Earth crawled out of the sea

‘Bleak, but beautiful’ is a good description of Earth right now, Cath.

A very frightening future , written with profound insight , evoking frightful thoughts of what is really going to befall mankind if he doesn’t wisen up.
Your poetry needs to become a mantra for people in power , good advise for people who should read and get their act together.

I can’t see anything happening, Yasmin. It’s a bit like your post yesterday. We all know the problem but no one knows or is willing to face the solution. Sad times.

Powerful with these timeless images George. If only people would listen…people in power

Thanks Shey. We all know the problem, experts know the solution. Governments need to show some bravery and ‘get it done’ for the planet, not ‘get it done’ for the benefit of a fat liar in the case of the UK.

Well we are but passing through.. We don’t own the planet.

“In the Year 2525” was too optimistic.

I’d take a guess that by 2525 there won’t be a living human on the planet. Thanks for reading ~ George

I think it goes right back to the Industrial Revolution. The sea became a dustbin that kept on giving. Sad but true ~ George

Humans, for the most part, are shortsighted. We look for ways to make life better right now with no regard for future generations. Greed is at the root of it all. Good piece, by the way.

I agree. Too many humans for one planet. The more we breed the worse it will get ~ George

I hope not as well. I watched a doc re The Great Barrier Reef and how it’s in danger the other night. It’s one of those things that makes us all worry and end up feeling helpless. Anyhow, I agree, ‘I hope not’. I just sent you an email, by the way ~ George

It’s shocking how many people don’t want to listen to the sad sounds of nature… Mother Earth is crying, really…
