‘Alfie’s Back in Town’
Here’s Alfie the most popular dog – maybe the most popular living thing – in town. He’s just back on the scene after a short break recovering from an op to sort his leg out. Now he’s good to go all the old ladies are feeding him the treats they keep in their handbags just for Alfie. He’s the friendliest little bloke you could ever come across. I was so glad to see him again. A shame the owner Mel won’t let me have him as a replacement for my old dog Skipper who snuffed it a couple of years ago. Welcome back, Alfie.
No more words, just another song today. It’s called ‘Punchdrunk’ off my ‘Rainbows End’ album. I hope you enjoy;

Sending some pats for Alfie. Is he a schnauzer?

I nearly forgot. I’ve always assumed he is a westie, although it looks like he’s had a haircut at the vets!

Alfie has a look no one can turn down. Happy to hear he’s back in town. “Alfie’s Back in Town” made me think of Thin Lizzy’s “The Boys are Back in Town”.

Thanks, Tim. That’s a great title. You’ve got me thinking. There’s another song with ‘Back in Town’ out there. I just can’t remember. I think it’s a old song. Verse wise, ‘Town’ is a good word to work with. Thanks again ~ George

The Kingston Trio had a song called “Back in Town”. Mid 60’s I’m thinking. I remember when Thin Lizzy released “The Boys are Back In Town” in the mid 1970’s. For a long time I thought the song was by Steely Dan who had released The Royal Scam album about the same time as Thin Lizzy released “The Boys are Back In Town”.

Phil Lynott wrote great lyrics. Played a unique bass as well. Funnily enough I was doing some research. 1968 Melanie Safka released ‘I’m Back In Town’. Her music got back in vogue in Europe around 2015, although my family had all her stuff on vinyl. The history of songwriting is one of the most interesting I think. ~ George

Tell us about Skipper, what type of dog was he? Like the name😊

Thanks. Skipper was a short-haired, border collie. I’d had him as a kid. He died in the last year of me being at uni. My best mate ever. I wrote this song about him the night he died https://zoolonaudio.bandcamp.com/album/dream-rescuer ~ George

We all need some puppy love in our lives. 🙂 The kids so badly want a pet, but we just can’t afford one, at least right now. I’m wondering if we could swing a guinea pig though…

My mate has a hamster because it’s what his girlfriend wanted. He hates the hamster. I think it’s better to wait for a dog! ~ George

HA! Well there’s no denying that hamsters aren’t for everyone. 🙂

They don’t really do much. Guinea pigs are more or less the same. It was to be a dog ~ George
